Keynote for 2010

Tell people how important the Melksham Train is!

I appeal to the DfT (successor to the SRA) to rethink its decision to ask for a reduced service to Melksham.

I appeal to the bidders for the franchise from 2006 to include a good service to the town in their offers. They can be assured of my support in their bids (and beyond) if they continue to offer the 5 trains each way daily (4 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday) or better, and I'm sure I talk for other businesses here too. I will lobby against bids that do not provide a reasonable service for the town, or will detrimentally affect us.

I appeal to other local businesses to write to the Dft, local representitives, and the bidders for the franchises to ensure that they are fully aware of the views of the people of the area and visitors too.

I appeal to local representatives and media to publicise the decision by the SRA to ask for a reduced service, which I consider to be incorrect. The SRA had to cover the whole of the UK and may not be aware of the specific local issues described above. Let's help their successors (and the bidders) learn so that a more appropriate bid may be requested, leading to a more suitable train service in 2007 and on.
