No suitable alternative

There is no suitable alternative public transport avaialble from Melksham to Westbury (best would be two buses - change in Trowbridge) or Swindon (best would be two buses, change in Devizes).

There is no alternative public transport at all along the railway corridor on a Sunday. If the Sunday trains were to be withdrawn, the alternatives would be to drive or take a taxi from Chippenham or Trowbridge.

Travelling to London, the train takes between one and a half hours and two hours. The express coach - the public transport alternative - takes three and a half hours into London and only runs once a day. Details

Personally speaking, people attending our training courses often arrive by train - either a daytime train or the evening service - and we collect them from the station. If the trains that they arrive on cease to run, it will be difficult for us to offer such a service ... at the start of a course, we can afford to have a staff member our for a few minutes, but not for the time a round trip to Chippenham or Westbury would take.

The local bus services do not have facilities to convey bicycles and are unsuitable for conveying heavy luggage.
