There is also a "christmas message" from Andrew Griffiths....
"All
Whoever said lighting never strikes twice clearly got it wrong. Rather to my surprise, I am nonetheless very pleased to report that we have now had the green light to provide stops at Severn Tunnel Junction in the 1422 and 1522 Portsmouth to Cardiff services, as from Monday 18 December. Thanks are due to Network Rail for making this possible.
The stops are at 1715 and 1814, on the 1655 and 1744 departures from Bristol Temple Meads respectively. This restores the choice of four peak-time services in each directions for commuters using Severn Tunnel Junction station.
Best wishes,
Andrew Griffiths Regional Manager, Central (Severn & Solent) First Great Western"
From Save Severn Tunnel :
"Just a quick word before we go off to celebrate with the team:
Thanks!
Without the efforts of countless numbers we couldn't have achieved this... for us, we are just pleased to have experienced democracy and common sense at work.
Have a good Christmas.
Kind regards
Save Severn Tunnel Junction Action Group"

That's great news for Severn Tunnel Junction ... and indeed for the rest of us.

Excellent news for Servern Tunnel Passangers and this proves things can be changed even after the timetable starts running.

The good news for South Wales continues , with lower FGW fares (link below.) http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/NewsItem.aspx?id=421

Whilst still I'm still delighted abot the STJ news, has their campaign been helped because of things being 'different' over in Wales. I.E. Pro Rail Policies, more politicle support etc etc?

They have definately received political support in abundance , Nick , which has really helped (we are certainly not without it ourselves , although we always welcome new recruits :) )
However , STJ are still bound by some of the same FGW franchise constraints as the rest of us , particularly length of trains , some of which are now 1 - coach during the peak (link below.) http://www.saveseverntunnel.co.uk/

However , there is a catch. Passengers must use FGW trains - and will be charged for another ticket if caught travelling on Arriva trains (link below.) http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200wales/tm_method=full%26objectid=18283850%26siteid=50082-name_page.html
The new FGW tickets were expected to extract revenue from Arriva , whose franchise is subsidised by the Welsh Assembly Government. Arriva warned that it might have to make "cost savings" on the M4 corridor route.
Quote :
"In the longer term, costs savings may be necessary on this route if these changes result in fewer passengers travelling on Arriva Trains Wales' services."
FGW's "bargain" tickets will not be available for travel between Severn Tunnel Junction and other Welsh stations.
An FGW spokesman said this would be "kept under review".

Save the Train was the campaign to bring an approriate train service back to and through Melksham.
Most big contributors are still around writing at the Coffee shop forum where new members are very welcome.
The train has been saved - sort of - we have stepped back up from an unusable service to a poorish one but it's doing very well. We did that through setting up the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership. That fulfilled its early objectives; it has been taken over by local and regional government types who are now doing medium and long term work. The team from this forun can also be found at the Melksham Rail User Group (which was the Melksham Rail Development Group at the time these articles were written and we had no users.
We mustn't loose sight, though, that the train service remains poor and needs our community support in marketing and campaigning to keep it going in a positive direction ... and all the more so when we're expecting to find a different normallity once we get out of the Coronavirus Pandemic and head for zero carbon via the climate crisis. Yes, it's saved ... it's now a key community facility ... the need for enhancement and the strong and near-universal local support remain, and the rail industry and goverment remain slow to move and provide the enhancements even to level us up with other towns. Please support the Melksham Rail User Group - now very much in partnership rather than protest with the rail industry and local government, including GWR, TransWilts and unitary and town councils. And please use the trains and buses, and cycle and walk when you can.
