Anyone know what this is going about its business in Frome at about 6.55pm? Didnt realise there was anything other than the old wessex train style trains in Frome, thats all I've ever been cramped into, might have to give it a try. Hope the links work..

Its a Class 180 Adelante unit , as used on the London Paddington - Frome service.
Here is a relevant link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_180
Dont get too used to them though , as they are due to move to either Scotrail or Transpennine Express......

And is the London train going to change into a 125 (HST) or a 165/166?

Could be a 125 once the have selective door opening fitted perhaps?

But 125's are used on the Stroud Valley Line and Stonehouse has a short platform at which only two of the coaches can fit on the platform so why can they not use them at Frome if they are using them at Stonehouse? Unless 125's already have selective door opening mechanisms?

Where a station has been traditionally used for longer trains than the platform, longer trains remain able to stop there due to "Grandfather rights". Where there's been a significant period that longer trains have NOT called, Health and Safety rules take precedence ....

The Adelante is timetabled to arrive in Frome at 7.55 pm, so I'm not sure why it was in Frome at the time you saw it. ???

Some do and some don't - it's going in as part of the refurbishment program. However, First do not schedule specific services to be guaranteed to be refurbsished or prefurbished, so until ALL are converted NONE are to be scheduled to stop at short platforms where Grandfather rights do not exist.

Save the Train was the campaign to bring an approriate train service back to and through Melksham.
Most big contributors are still around writing at the Coffee shop forum where new members are very welcome.
The train has been saved - sort of - we have stepped back up from an unusable service to a poorish one but it's doing very well. We did that through setting up the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership. That fulfilled its early objectives; it has been taken over by local and regional government types who are now doing medium and long term work. The team from this forun can also be found at the Melksham Rail User Group (which was the Melksham Rail Development Group at the time these articles were written and we had no users.
We mustn't loose sight, though, that the train service remains poor and needs our community support in marketing and campaigning to keep it going in a positive direction ... and all the more so when we're expecting to find a different normallity once we get out of the Coronavirus Pandemic and head for zero carbon via the climate crisis. Yes, it's saved ... it's now a key community facility ... the need for enhancement and the strong and near-universal local support remain, and the rail industry and goverment remain slow to move and provide the enhancements even to level us up with other towns. Please support the Melksham Rail User Group - now very much in partnership rather than protest with the rail industry and local government, including GWR, TransWilts and unitary and town councils. And please use the trains and buses, and cycle and walk when you can.
