Hi,
I was in the area. Trying to get from Paddington to Slough. The 9:00 train left at 9:35 or so and stopped at every stop on the way, so I got to work at 10:30. Great excuse to be late for work! Don't think I'll get away with it too many times though...

Yup, I got snared in this one this morning. The 07.46 from Reading got to Paddington at precisely 09.03.
I was sitting on the floor in an aisle for most of the journey. Joy. Accidents like derailments will happen but I will be interested to see quite how long these delays go on for.....

I was on a train which was the delayed 8.53 from Reading to Paddington, which left Reading at 9.25 and got in at 10.55!!
I had actually changed t Reading from the 9.02 from Didcot to Paddington as I couldn't get a seat on that one(!!!) so at least I had a seat while we were stuck. I imagine that the people on the train I got off were stuck as well and loads of them didn't have seats so at least my change of train was good in one way!!
I worked out that the 8.53 from Reading was the 5.32 from Plymouth and should have got to Paddington at 9.21. So nearly 5 and a half hours for those people who got on at Plymouth. This is so very, very bad.
I've just discovered this site and would be interested in any weblinks to FGW passenger sites or general sites for disgruntled customers
Cheers and good luck to everyone getting home!
Chris

Save the Train was the campaign to bring an approriate train service back to and through Melksham.
Most big contributors are still around writing at the Coffee shop forum where new members are very welcome.
The train has been saved - sort of - we have stepped back up from an unusable service to a poorish one but it's doing very well. We did that through setting up the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership. That fulfilled its early objectives; it has been taken over by local and regional government types who are now doing medium and long term work. The team from this forun can also be found at the Melksham Rail User Group (which was the Melksham Rail Development Group at the time these articles were written and we had no users.
We mustn't loose sight, though, that the train service remains poor and needs our community support in marketing and campaigning to keep it going in a positive direction ... and all the more so when we're expecting to find a different normallity once we get out of the Coronavirus Pandemic and head for zero carbon via the climate crisis. Yes, it's saved ... it's now a key community facility ... the need for enhancement and the strong and near-universal local support remain, and the rail industry and goverment remain slow to move and provide the enhancements even to level us up with other towns. Please support the Melksham Rail User Group - now very much in partnership rather than protest with the rail industry and local government, including GWR, TransWilts and unitary and town councils. And please use the trains and buses, and cycle and walk when you can.
