Anyone up for setting up a spoof FGW Website? - 1107/3151 Written by David Preston on Wednesday, 17th January 2007
I am considering setting up a spoof FGW website to show the company just what I feel of them. They've already sued me effectively - by the cost of my season ticket.
Anyone got any good FGW nicknames?
F---ing Greedy W---ers is my current favourite.

I did once wonder what First Group would "brand" themselves as if they ever won a East - West Rail franchise.
FEW Trains perhaps....

Worst Late Western was quoted on the news last night I believe this nickname came from the MTLS group

Dave and others ... good luck and I wish you well with this other site - I'll visit it and, I'm sure, be amused. Forgive me if I don't take an active role - I'm set on working "with" as far as possible rather than agrevating. I'm so law abiding myself that I think I would find it difficult to present a "Cattle Class" ticket, but each to their own.

Try a spoof DfT site. You could have all sorts of wacky ideas on it, like awarding franchises on the basis of catering for growth and ordering new trains and..... Sorry, I'm just being silly.

I think a spot of "gallows humour" may be behind some of these posts , Mr Ellis ::)

Gallows humour, no I just feel FGW need a good kick the backside. Well the management at least, not the front line staff who do a difficult job in difficult circumstances.

I have to say that , no matter how "positively engaged" one tries to be with them , dealing with the FGW management can be frustrating at times......

You'll note I'm not discouraging you - just prefering my own methods and approaches. Plenty of people shouting and cussing, and some good humourists will be able to make excellent jokes. I'm more a reasoned argument sort of person.

Farce Great Western also has a serious side ... primarily looking at Newbury to London journeys and with some campaigning about similar issues to other groups including ourselves.

Save the Train was the campaign to bring an approriate train service back to and through Melksham.
Most big contributors are still around writing at the Coffee shop forum where new members are very welcome.
The train has been saved - sort of - we have stepped back up from an unusable service to a poorish one but it's doing very well. We did that through setting up the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership. That fulfilled its early objectives; it has been taken over by local and regional government types who are now doing medium and long term work. The team from this forun can also be found at the Melksham Rail User Group (which was the Melksham Rail Development Group at the time these articles were written and we had no users.
We mustn't loose sight, though, that the train service remains poor and needs our community support in marketing and campaigning to keep it going in a positive direction ... and all the more so when we're expecting to find a different normallity once we get out of the Coronavirus Pandemic and head for zero carbon via the climate crisis. Yes, it's saved ... it's now a key community facility ... the need for enhancement and the strong and near-universal local support remain, and the rail industry and goverment remain slow to move and provide the enhancements even to level us up with other towns. Please support the Melksham Rail User Group - now very much in partnership rather than protest with the rail industry and local government, including GWR, TransWilts and unitary and town councils. And please use the trains and buses, and cycle and walk when you can.
